The emergence of innovative technological programs such as Augmented Reality (AR), Kahoot and so on, have allowed the development of new teaching techniques in foreign language learning. However, are you in favour, against or sceptical about this methodologies?
I am quite happy about new innovations as long as they are used for actual pedagogic purposes and not just for their own sake!
Yes I am in support of these new tools and that is not to say they are not with their inadequacies. With matched appropriately with human resources, they will achieve greatness
There are the benefits of the use of ICT in language learning: Through ICT, images can easily be used in teaching and improving the retentive memory of students. Through ICT, teachers can easily explain complex instructions and ensure students' comprehension
The use of ICT in language learning contributes to development of communicative skills due to it offers a myriad of tools that involve reading, writing and listening. Also, the students can access to multiple authentic texts that show the real way the language is spoken.
In combination with communicative language learning, I think ICT can foster learning. Several years ago, I saw an interactive story telling program for children learning Ukrainian. The activities, geared toward reinforcing language (reading, hearing) were fun...even as an adult learning. :-)
Thank you for all your replies. I found them really interesting. New technologies in the classroom is a quite new topic and it has a lot of benefits but there are some disavantages. For example, in Spain where I am from, mobile phones, tablets or electronical devices are forbidden in the school or high school which makes the use of them a bit harder.
Electronical devices shouldn't be forbidden in classroom, because they are support tools to make an interesting class; but I understand that some students use that devices in a wrong way while teacher is trying to do his best. The alternative way is try to foster the use of ICT's at home and use tools like Edmodo, Google Classroom and so for.
I believe that technology helps students research subjects, share ideas and learn specific skills. Technology allows for such flexibility in learning that it is enabling our students to work in a more collaborative manner. Technology is a key building block in facilitating collaborative learning.
i think that innovation will foster students' learning and will enhance their critical thinking as Vygotsky claim learning is a social process ( i mean when innovation is used in the right way) , precisely when students interact with each other using the target language (either via Facebook or any other type of social media) their learning is co-constructed. but i m just against students who use innovation in the wrong way because sometimes we find some students waste their time, and they use mobiles to enjoy and to entertain during the lesson and when the teacher is explaining
