In India, the female victims of sexual violence are medically examined by using the one of the most brutal and offensive 'two finger test'. The practice is carried on as a medico-legal evidence. The test is done not only by a lady doctor but mostly by the male doctors, as the female doctors are less available.

Very little knowledge on this subject. There is not only India that makes this practice but also in Indonesia, where some women who want a career in the police force must be virgin and single. I find that this test is practiced in your country and Indonesia is barbaric and humiliating. Many non-governmental organizations fighting against this archaic practice.The woman is not an object.
Dear Mohammad! Any violence can not be justified. This is a postulate. But this postulate often comes into conflict with the traditions, laws, ideas about morality throughout the world. Of course, immoral are the conditions of the test, of which you spoke. So there will be people like Nehru, who break the traditions and restore the rightful respect for each person in the community.

It is both, brutal and humiliating. It is an artifact of medical theory and practice that legitimizes male-centric views of women's sexuality. Done in the name of science this practice is shameful and worthy of condemnation. Assessors who practice in this area should get trained in how (and what) evidence is collected in sexual assault. Further, assessors who use this type of practice should be held accountable for engaging in same. Our approach should be to minimize harm and further trauma to victims not compound it.

in support what others said, any intrusion in human's sexual area is a statutory rape in many countries; what is done to women in the investigative phase of the rape is actually a secondary victimizaton. The problem is that courts too much rely on medical evidence because they feel safer in the field where someone other has more knowledge. There are other investigative methods involved with rape, most usually finding the fibers on the clothes, DNA (from semen, or saliva or other fluid of perpetuator), bruises, etc.; collecting these evidence needs a medical examination, but with a consent of the victim and with standard procedures that minimize the shame and other psychological and even physical pains of victim. Also, not only the medical evidence would be involved; there is a range of possibilities depending on how it happened. In any case, If India is state party to the CEDAW this practice of "two finger test" can be internationally challenged at the UN level.
