We have 40 to 50 years dedicated to research on renewable energies. I would say the first big impulse was the oil crisis of the early 70s. But previous research existed.
Many books and articles and other texts were produced in this period. Which would you say is your favorite?

Agree with Kamal. It is difficult to pinpoint any one, because there are a large number of them and all are good. Also the technology is changing and these need to be continuously updated.

Not always we prefer the best book. Often, we prefer a book that is not the best but presents some topic in a different way.

It's a broad question. But some of the best discussions arise from questions of broad spectrum.
Ir depends what you are looking for but definitely there are quite many good books now. If it is a single book dealing with renewable energy or a collections of different book specialized in each renewable source. If it is a single book dealing with all of them I have found

Boyle. G; Renewable energy - power for a sustainable future. Oxford Press is also good but in my opinion too much focused on the UK situation but it is still a good introduction.
For books specialized in each renewable energy there is a collections of good classic books as mentioned in the posts by Amor Gamma on solar and Gabriel Neganu on wind power. For biomass I suggest Biomass for Renewable Energy, Fuels, and Chemicals, Donald L. Klass. For geothermal power, Geothermal Power Plants, : Principles, Applications, Case Studies, and Environmental Impact, R. DiPippo.
