As the world heads to a stage of eventual water crisis, is rain water harvesting one of the most suitable methods to conserve water that otherwise goes to waste?
RWH is traditionally being practiced in various ways, especially in semi-arid countries like Namibia. We're having good experiences in supporting this kind of technology as an additional water source among others.
We have many technique in arid and semi arid region of Iran for water harvesting such as BandSar, khoshab, Hotak and other that developed over thousands of years.
I think this has been proven true: RWH is a great viable option to avoid excessive resource consumption on water treatment when the quality of rainwater is already superior to surface water. I think the question nowadays is: What is the best use we can give to rainwater within different contexts, i.e. urban, agriculture, stormwater, dry areas or potential flooding areas.
RWH for agricultural production most especially to make-up for intra-seasonal dry-spells has been experimented in south western Nigeria. Although, the seasonal rainfall totals may be high, but the distribution especially during the cropping season is a problem. We got very good yield continuously for about three seasons with maize as the test crop.
We have many techniques in arid and semi-arid region 0f Iraq like western desert for water harvestings such as small dams in Horan, Ghdaf, and Ubaydh catchments area, attach file has some information
