I just cleaned a S. glanis skull, and I cannot find a good paper on the osteological anatomy of the species. Could anyone recommend me some, or help in identify the questionable bones?
Yes, those are the hyomandibulae. The bone labelled "premaxilla" also looks like the vomer to me.
For biogeographical reasons, I have no personal experience or useful references specific to Silurus glanis, Silurus, or even silurids, but I do know several useful references dealing with North American catfish anatomy (extant and extinct).
Let me know if you think that these could be useful to you
I didn't even recognize the misidentified vomer! Thank You! :) You know, I cleaned the skull with bugs, ants, etc., and some bones fell out from the skull, they moved relatively far away from each other, or from their original in-life position. So, my bad :(
I'd be happy if You could send me those papers, most likely the papers on extinct catfishes.
