What is the Water/Quicklime ratio for lime slaking?

The water for Lime slaking is adding in excess to the quicklime in the lime slaking reaction. According to the papers, water to quicklime ratio is in the range from 2.5 to 6. But, how do you calculate the optimal value? is there a test to do?
