In FEFLOW specific storage is in fact the compressibility of an aquifer. I have a lake that is part of my model. The units FEFLOW gives for compressibility are 1/m, 1/ft or 10^-4/m. I've searched compressibility values and they are never given in such units in the bibliography I read. Does anyone know the values for free water in 1/m units?
Perhaps this link to paper might help. When using an unvented transducer, the water levels have to be adjusted with local barometric pressure. I am guessing that might be the compressibility you are referring to. Perhaps there is some correction for water body depth, temperature, or other factors. The density of water maximizes at 4 degrees C.

I think that in these 1/length units, compressibility of lake water can be defined as [change in volume of lake water]/[change in hydraulic head (in length units)] per unit volume lake water.
I seem to recall most standard definitions of compressibility use the dimensions appropriate to [fractional change in volume]/[change in pressure], such that the numerator is dimensionless and with denominator pressure in force/area units. Recalling that head (in length units) = pressure/[rho*g] where rho = fluid (e.g. water) density; then modify the handbook compressibility unit for water by multiplication by rho*g to get the 1/length units for compressibility used in FEFLOW.
