Talent search examination in Mathematics, as I guess, is just a technique of assessing/measuring the level/degree of talent in mathematics of the students. Of course, it can can have an impact on creativity of the learners if such events are held scientificately, regularly and continuously,
Once I was talking with Dr.A Vijayakumar CUSAT, at that time a parent came to see him.The request of the parent was- My son has been getting training to write Talent search exams, but the date to apply is over, can you extend the date?. He said No. Then the parent says, if his performance is best, he will get some benefits when he study in US etc...this is his ambition in life, if you are not allowing he will feel desperate,......
Then I was thinking about an ordinary parent who suffers to give fees for school education than coaching for talent search exams.There will be 80% of parents who are un aware on those tests.How can this types of tests guarantee the Talent?.For students and parents this is a step to get benefits.So they are spending cash to earn cash. Is there any questions to invent new equations and applications in talent search?
In most of the quiz competition in mathematics, the teacher knows some specific answers and asks that to participants. If the team members are given a lap top and net connection, and if they are given chance to ask some questions to teacher, and for each wrong answers from teacher if the student is given points,then only quiz competition becomes meaningful.
In interviews also the quiz competition method is followed.
In india, most of maths departments conducts quiz competition as a part of departmental activity.
One of the Professor is now doing the job NET coaching after his retirement from service.The fees is huge.If we take the list of NET qualified students when he was in service, is rare comparing with his new training students.
Why the university examinations follow a pattern and NET exams follow another pattern on same subject?If the pattern of question papers in Masters is same as that of NET exams, then the unity in diversity can be assured.
Most of the existing quiz competitions are not only meaningless but also misleading. There is necessity of rigorous reformation of the quiz competitions.
I also strongly suggest that there should be correlation and coordination of NET examinations and university examinations, They should be uniform in pattern, syllabus, level of depth of knowledge etc.
