The industrial distribution system can be classified as follows:
Level1: All field sensors linked to a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Signals and controllers are visualized through Human Machine Interface (HMI)
Level2: Upper level that hosts mathematical models and complex control tasks. it is based on fast servers that can collect data from Level1 and process them. Moreover, data can be reported in descriptive form.
Level3: upper level which link business modules that can schedule production orders and also can calculate process efficiency, cost, etc. it is based on industrial packages such as SAP system.
I was talking to a guy who worked for an elevator company and he said they only used proportional+integral control (i.e. no derivative).
