I'm setting up a new organic chemistry lab in an older building that does not have house nitrogen. Considering a generator instead of gas cylinders to supply the nitrogen gas needs for our fumehoods (14 hoods in total). Not sure what size/type generator to get. Any input welcome.

How pure do you want the nitrogen? That is a very critical factor. If you want better than say 0.01% impurities then I really think you should by laboratory rated gas from a reputable supplier. If you only want de-oxygenated air then I think you might be able to build an in house system quite readily.
