In case of mammals, the embryo is attached with uterus and use to get necessary source of nutrition and oxygen directly from mother. However, in case of an egg there is no such attachment. Though, the embryo still develops into a complete individual after a long period of incubation.

Here my question comes... early development of any animal needs enormous quantity of oxygen due to high metabolic rate but, shell protects the egg interior from aerobic environment. Hence, what is the actual mechanism to get such high quantity of oxygen for development?
