Thank Dr. Kawas to include my paper. It is quite understandable that peak endotoxin concentrations occur in summer because high temperature and humidity levels in general facilitate the growth of gram-negative bacteria (in various environmental media). I am currently working on a review paper about endotoxins in the ambient air. From what I've learned, most previous studies detected peak endotoxin concentrations in spring or summer. So there is nothing surprising here. Particularly for animal houses, as you may see from my paper, they use larger ventilation rates during summer, which leads to a significant emission of endotoxins to the ambient air.

Hi Jose.

You could try some foot print modelling in combination with a land cover map. I would expect that agricultural areas will show up.

If you are interested in things like ventilation rates from animal houses and how they vary over time in relation to your detection, then we developed a simple parameterisation for this in the FP7 project ECLAIRE as one component in a regional scale emission model for European agriculture. This might be usable if you have to explore this geographically

In the mean time, we found that the main source of airborne endotoxin is pollen! Most of the endotoxin we find in the air are being carried by the pollen of Artemisia:
