I have synthesized glasses consists of number of compounds like BaO,ZnO,TeO2,BaF2,Er2O3. i could found the above listed physical properties was calculated using refractive index. can anyone explain how the numerical quantity of above mentioned properties related with short range order?

Basically the number of atoms in unit volume relates to the density of the material and also to the refractive index.
