absolutely essential. I grew up in a small holding farming family. we had one Buffalo for milk and two oxen for ploughing land. 80 years ago in north India there were no tractors lust Oxen. Still that supported a growing family and made sufficient progress for better farming success. So animals' upkeep (husbandry) proved to be fundamental in sustaining life. In fact whole villages functioned the same way. It is a wonder of Nature that human life support via animals and plants exists at all.
