While science and technology can help in solving environmental problems, it is ultimately in people themselves to solve the issues that affect us(not just environmental). People must take ownership of the impact they are doing to the environment and how it affects other people. Once this is achieved, then science can really help in solving these issues.

The healthy/unhealthy  interactions between humans and nature and the changes of behaviors erratic or otherwise  are observed and studied by science. Scientific results are used  to convince policy makers and companies that exploit nature for profits what to do and what not to do. Science also plays a role to protect, replenish or rejuvinate and sustain the environment for continuous use. 

The role of science has been to solve complex environmental problems and global threats is quite obvious.  Some examples are provided.  This has made us enjoy better quality of life, and some longevity.

Science is already addressing several of the environmental problems tormenting the society like biodiversity loss, loss of forests, global warming, climate change, ozone hole, melting of glaciers, natural calamities, pollution of natural resources etc. to cite a few. Science will continue to provide guidance and solutions to present as well as new problems that may crop up in future. I agree with the observation of dear @Arturo that it is people's involvement and people's movement which are equally important. Environmental protection and preservation are being taught in schools and colleges to educate future generations about the impending as well as potential environmental problems and possible remedies.

Malaria i and chicken gunya is a deadly disease in India we all know how it is spread and how it kills But  neither Government nor Society is fighting to eradicate this disease but best weapon to combat this is only education. Education to all is need of the hour . Educate all and provide basic facility of clean Housing to all is needed to protect our environment. Education brings basic facility to all.  powerity eradication programs should have this as integral part to develop society.

I agree with Pramod about the importance of education for the next generations. The present one, through ignorance, have half destroyed the livable planet and continue to do so knowing fully the damage they are doing in the process.

The science is there or can become available in the future to fix all possible problems. However, what is lacking is the will to admit mistakes and change policies.
