Some oxide photocatalysts exhibit highly effective photocatalytic activity for the degradation of organic pollutants; while some can be suitable for the hydrogen production by splitting water. Is there the relationship between the degradation of organic pollutants and the hydrogen production by oxide photocatalyst?
There are many factors which govern the photocatalytic activity, either for organic degradation or hydrogen production, like conduction band level, valence band level, bulk electron-hole recombination, surface electron-hole recombination, hole diffusion efficiency from bulk to surface and electron transfer across oxide-solution interface. While, each oxide differs in each individual factor listed above, it is difficult to predict if a particular oxide can function better as a organic degradation catalyst or as a hydrogen production catalyst.
I agree with Bokare, but also, when you want study relationship between degradation of some organic compounds and hydrogen production by oxide catalyst, is very important character of organic substrate. Degradation will be different when you'll degrade aromatic, unsaturated or saturated compounds.
