I am trying to learn about the neural modulators effects on states of mind, especially the two extremes: a focus on deductive logic vs. a totally passive experiential focus, as in Martin Buber's description of the I-Thou state of mind.

LSD has been used to induce the latter state of mind.

The former state of mind is fairly well understood and researched, but the latter state of mind has, understandably, not been investigated scientifically. The former state is emphasized in our Western culture, but the latter is more of an Eastern culture, as for example in India.

This latter state of mind is needed to be creative and to see patterns that are often overlooked.

Of course, we need to have the facility to use both states of mind in order to solve, seemingly intractable problems.
