Please can you kindly advise of any research, publication or guidance documents that attempts to / or define the relationship between the depth of clay capping and level of protection offered (if any) from various ground gases and ground contamination on construction development sites.

In general the thicker is the protecting clay layer, the better and the more efficient it could be. But we also have to consider tha quality of the clay in terms of permeability, homogeneity either vertically or horizontally.. We also must take care of the nature and flow of the polluting impulsion, is it just a suface spill or waste water pits ... the nature of the polluting agent is important too to be taken into account, as well as its behavour once in contact with the clay components...
