The relationship is not straightforward or linear.
On one hand, teacher autonomy can foster the development and implementation of 21st century teaching skills, because it allows teachers to tailor their instruction to the needs, interests, and abilities of their students, as well as to the demands and opportunities of their local and global contexts.
On the other hand, it can enhance teacher autonomy, as they equip teachers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of their profession, as well as to advocate for their rights and responsibilities as educators.
