The redox tower or thermodynamic ladder is the ideia that there is an hierarchy among microbial groups according to the reduction potential of the electron acceptors that they reduce in respiration.

Oren (2011) offers the following values for the standard reduction potential (E0) of electron acceptors relevant to microbial respiration (in Volts):

N2O/N2 +1,36

NO/N2O +1,18

O2/H2O +0,82

Mn(IV)/Mn(II) +0,80

Fe(III)/Fe(II) +0,77

NO3–/N2 +0,74

NO3–/NO2– +0,43

NO2–/NO +0,36

SO42–/HS– –0,22

CO2/CH4 –0,24

2H+/H2 –0,41

Does anyone know what is the standard reduction potential (E0) for dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (DNRA), also known as nitrate ammonification (NO3–/NH4+)?
