The variety of forms of participation of NP in the political processes in EU strengthens the democratic legitimacy by increasing transparency and accountability of the EU institutions and by improving cross-level communication lines between the EU institutions and national authorities. Active forms of participation increase influence of NP on the political processes EU. However, a wide range of informal participation increases the effectiveness of supranational decision-making processes, in particular, reducing the technocratic nature of the decisions.
It will make longer debates (years, for a real harmonization of positions), but it will be more effective integration

I hope I understand Your question correctly if I will try to answer the question what mean the informal participation of NP in the decision-making of the EU. since the orange and yellow cards policy involvement of NP in decision-makig is as You said increasing the accountability in the EU, the informal participation of NP representatives is a different question. let me ask what can mean a participation of NP aside the formal rules? does it mean that NP are prolonged hand of national governments and are pushing more political pressure on EU Commission? and in which policies? probably we have in mind a migration crisis. Personaly, I do not consider this as a good sign, the informal participation, because it can mean just that national politics is diversed (NP is not following government), or that is a prolonged hand and is pressing on Commission out of formal competences.

First of all, the attempt to involve national parliaments in the EU legislative procedure was to be a response to the so-called crisis of democracy in the Union. In my opinion, this is unfortunately only a declarative, strongly theoretical response. In practice, national parliaments have a limited influence on EU legislation. It can be measured more in the political (non-legal) area. Possibly, this influence may be perceived indirectly - through the composition of the European Parlement. Its deputies are often representatives of national political parties that also have their deputies to national parliaments (remember, however, that a Member State parliamentarian can not be simultaneously a member of the European Parliament!). And often (but not always!) the political preferences from national elections goes into preferences in the European Parliament elections. Very simplifying, EP is a reflection of the political scene of the sum of the Member States. (But it is simplification.)
