Try bath sonication to dissolve the CMC completely. Cellulose are not perfectly soluble in water. So you may need more time or increase temperature as suggested.
Add 50 ml water to 3 g carboxymethyl cellulose . Allow it to swll overnight. Add slightly more water say, 30 ml. Stirr and heat to 40-50 degree Celsious. Once it is completely dissolved add the remaining amount of water to make it 100 ml.
It is generally quite difficult to CMC in water at higher conc. However, the solution can be prepared adding very small quantities of CMC (about 100 mg), t say in100 ml of water and agitating vigorously with a mechanical stirrer till it is dissolved and repeat the procedure. .A temperature of about 40C may be maintained. The solution shold always be stirred before use and if possible keep it under stirring while using it.It is possible there may be a suspension formation.
I had used the solutions of CMC in my work many times.Hence, what I had mentioned is based on experience.Adding 30g of CMC to 1l of water will not give solution. Please remember it is SCMC.
@So-Jin Kim . Hi, Dr. Kim: we used the CMC solution for engineering purposes. we have never tested it for biological/medicinal/pharmaceutical uses. thanks
