As mentioned by other experts there are no WHO guideline line values for ammonia. In the 1993 Guidelines, no health-based guideline value was recommended,
but the Guidelines stated that ammonia could cause taste and odour
problems at concentrations above 35 and 1.5 mg/litre, respectively. pls see attached doc pg. 303.
"Guidelines stated that ammonia could cause taste and odour problems at concentrations above 35 and 1.5 mg/litre, respectively". Yes it is correct; though there is no guideline value but an indication has been provided regarding taste and order problems at the said concentration levels.
Read the latest WHO Standard (2011), p.223.
"The threshold odour concentration of ammonia at alkaline pH is approximately 1.5 mg/l, and a taste threshold of 35 mg/l has been proposed for the ammonium cation.Ammonia is not of direct relevance to health at these levels, and no health-based guideline value has been proposed".
