In case of large number of ooids and other coated grains found in abundance in limestones (thin-sections), what are the palaeoenvironmental implications of this?
One typical paleoenvironment was an area with high wave or current energy where the ooids form underwater shoals usually near a platform edge. See the geology of the Bahama Bank for a modern example.
Ooids, oncoids and other coated grains are well known and studied in carbonate sediments. It would go beyond the scope of this article to describe even approximately what can be deduced from them. I recommend that you take a look at the book by E. Flügel (2010). Microfacies of Carbonate Rocks.
