When I-V curve is plotted the curve shows almost linear trend up to a certain voltage and thereafter the conductivity increases with much faster rate almost exponentially means it shows somewhat diode characteristics.
What happens with the charge transport beyond that certain voltage. Whether some bonds break ?

Mostly it is conducting, but, depends on the method of preparation. In some cases, the conductivity is as close as that of semiconductors. Heating effect with the application of high voltage may cause non-ohamic behaviour. Please highlight the metal contact or nature of the probe.
