It is known that Guiacol (2-methoxy phenol) is a major content of Bio-diesel. It is hydrogenated for further processing. In that we can use Ni-Mo containing mesoporous catalyst. The pore width of mesoporous catalyst will be 1-10 nm. If we know the molecular size of Guiacol, we can assess if such reactions will be carried out at what extent.
You can obtain a first-order estimation of the molecular size from the molar volume (molecular mass/density).
it should fit into 1nm pores reasonably well (its a bit less than 1nm) but with some diffusional constraints, but will fit easily into the 10nm ones
If you make a simple 3d sketch you can see that the 2-methoxy phenol is a "sphere" with aprox 8 Angstrom diameter, so it should easily fit into yours material.
