It is having a wide range of mineral/ chemical compositions based on which river...what stage of the river, geographical location, geomorphology of the area and geology of the area....normally it consists of quartz/ feldspars, heavy minerals...like zircon, rutile, tourmaline, monazite, xenotime, garnet, magnetite, ilmenite, pyrite, sillimanite...etc....the chemical composition reflects that of mineral composition of the sand....which is directly related to provinance rock composition.
Sand is a term that is known as a particle size ranging from 1/16 mm to 2 mm whatever its mineral composition, so the mineral composition of the river sands depends on the sediments type of the river basins.
@Dr. Mohannad Husain Al-Sherrawi Sir, thank you for the given link, i got chemical composition of sand in that article.
@Dr. Asoori Latha Madam, ya it is general question, i just wanted to compare composition of river sand and waste foundry sand, thank you for the valuable comment.
As Dr. Bayan has explained, based on the particle size the sediments are classified as clay, loam, sand, etc. The mineral and chemical composition of the sediments along the river course / valleys depends on the geological formations covering /representing the area.
