Tan delta equal dielectric loss over dielectric constant where the dielectric loss is imagenary part and the dielectric constant is real part and delta plus phase angle equal 90 degree

The dielectric loss tangent can be similarly defined:

tan ⁡ δ e = ε ″/ ε ′

For dielectrics with small loss, this angle is ≪ 1 and tan δ ≈ δ
