Non stoichiometric transition metal carbides posses a shorter mean free path of electrons (around 10-50 A°) with respect the typical value for metals (40 nm) due to the presence of vacancies. The situation should be different for a stoichiometric compound like pure tungsten carbide (no metallic binder).
