What is the main difference(s) between the two-parallel linear antenna array and rectangular antenna array in a smart antenna system?
For example, a two-parallel linear antenna array each has a 10-elements VS rectangular antenna array with 2row*10-elements, that's mean each geometry have 20-elements in total.
20-elements rectangular antenna array in a smart antenna system by digital beamforming gives the increasing SNR on the receive site on the 6 dB and increases transmitted power on the 6 dB by using a narrow beam. This gives an ability to expand cell sizes.
On the other hand, such design improved anty-jammer protection on the basis of forming spatial nulling in antenna patterns.
2D-antenna array is better in any case as 1D for spatial selection of signals and gives an ability to decrease errors of signals amplitude estimation by a selection of signals on the second angle coordinate.
