I am working on pool boiling heat transfer with nanostructured surface using GLAD technique. Nanowire and nanorod arrays on a surface are also a nano structured surface. How it is differentiated between nanowire and nanorod in terms of diameter and height for the same.
nanowires can be defined as structures that have a thickness or diameter constrained to tens of nanometers or less and an unconstrained length.
Nanorods, along with other noble metal nanoparticles, also function as theragnostic agents. Nanorods absorb in the near IR, and generate heat when excited with IR light.
Nanowire = electrical wire (CONDUCTIVE)
Nanorod = solid nanofibre (IT CAN BE NOT CONDUCTIVE).
Both are 1-D nanomaterials/nanostructured materials, but different in term of conductive or not. This definition is written in the ISO of Nanotechnology.
