If now for each person on the planet is the average of 0.28 hectares of fertile land, by 2030 the area will be reduced to 0.19 hectares. It is believed, that this effect is particularly evident in the last 50 years. Is it really so?
Factors that have contributed to land degradation include:
soil erosion, loss of soil fertility, soil structure change, salinisation, soil pollution
desertification, loss of vegetation cover, introduced herbivores such as rabbits and goats, overuse of irrigation water.
Land degradation from human activities has the following effects:
1.causes deterioration in the chemical and physical properties of soils
2.accelerates soil loss
3.reduces primary productivity of plant communities
4.results in a decline in biodiversity
5.leads to increased hazards for human occupancy.
6.impacts of land degradation
7.land-degradation impacts are felt by the agricultural industry.
During last decade the nutrients deficiency has been considered as the main cause of poor productivity and crop failure.
