what is the interpretation of presence of CH3 functional group in the IR in treated silicate material with NaOH although the ore (original material before treating) did not contain any carbon ?
Depends on the intensity of the band(s). My guess is that you actually see two not very intense peaks at about 2850 and 2920 cm-1, which actually belong to CH2-groups and are quite often present due to a contamination from e.g. machine oil. Am I right?
