[i]Kinetic Sand is actually 98 percent SiO2 covered in a 2% non-toxic binding agent called polydimethyl siloxane, or PDMS in it. PDMS belongs to a group of polymeric organosilicon compounds and is most notably used as an anti-foaming agent in industrial process liquids.
[ Find attached a file giving its structure]
[ii]It looks like real sand, because it is 98% pure sand. It moves like dense fluid without making a mess. That's the 2% of non-toxic polymer. It sticks to itself, so cleanup is a breeze.
[iii] No fluid within, no place for bacteria to grow
but , just PDMS and sand?what about antibacterial activity?is salt in it?i heared about flour salt and even babay oil!!!. i think it has some other additives that producers didn't talk about this!
Honestly ,despite repeated searches on internet I could not find any other CHEMICAL CONSTITUENT/S which may be present in it.
Yes,you find different persons/ companies having prepared kinetic sand of different colors giving a soothing sort of feelings by adding different substances like the ones your self have mentioned.
As regards to its antibacterial activity, the PDMS would itself take care as it naturally antibacterial.
I wonder if I can add my opinion on this discussion.
The very viscoelastic, negative Poisson's ratio, self-healing and other physicochemical /rheological properties of "Kinetic Sand" is originating from a key component. The proprietary ingredient is a "hydrogen-bonded' siloxane polymer. That is for sure.
