Information Technology has been quite flexible and customized to user friendly features right form the Child stage user. Technology is a Child; while User evolved and adapted Intelligence. Children start using Computing gadgets such as PCs, Laptops, Ipads, smart phones etc.,
as play toy with the Games options, Musics and
progress to Applications
then on to emails, and social networks such as Facebook.
Today school children even lesser than the age of 12 are having facebook accounts and use it....Facebook require users of the social network to be at least 13 years old. Millions of preteens use the service anyway: some get permission from their parents to create an account while others lie about their age to get past sign-up restrictions. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wishes there was no limit in the first place.
Recently Flynn, who coined the "Flynn Effect," the longitudinal increase in IQ, has observed the "Reverse Flynn Effect" where IQ has stabilized or declining in Western Europe. The PISA 2009 International Tests found an inverse correlation between computer use and achievement in science, reading and math among 15 year olds. Sesame Street plus Computers in the Classroom = Stupid children plus Richer software companies.
Why our IQ levels are higher than our grandparents?
You will say, this is due to the advancement in science and technology...!!! But using new tools like super-fast computers doesn't mean the person has superior IQ. There are many factors (genetic and environmental) contribute to human IQ. The new technologies may lead to "Reverse Flynn Effect" which help researches to find out the more serious confounders.
Technological impact on the Intelligence of a child is phenomenal nowadays. Children are more adaptable to the mobile telephony and internet technologies. They are quick learners to operating their requirement in a computer. They are more yielded towards Games through Keyboard, Mouse and joystick etc.,
Thank you sir for your reply, but a personal point of view I think the technology particularly the Internet replaces the effort of the child in solving problems of the school, and make him forget to read the books.
Technological profress affects both the mind of the child in his studies and in his daily life. Today, many children are using mobile phones, computers and the Internet in particular. On the one hand, anything that can help his studies, and secondly, he can teach his laziness.
We should always help our children to use technology in the right way.
Today it would be fun to see a Child play with a iPhone or tab, but this situation is not feasible or affordable by every parent.
Therefore, though technological superiority has been a considerable advantage in child intelligence -Continuously identify existing technologies, how they can be improved as complementary technologies to maintain the superiority with upto date tools and applications.
In the US practically every kid has access to an iPhone, even the poor. That aside, the iPhone and all technology in a capitalist society is driven by commercial interests and I’ve been arguing that their application to education has produced negligible and even negative results, which I’ve documented in a recent book chapter. Moreover, it appears that the income gap parallels the intelligence gap as the smart get smarter and the dumb get dumber all over the world.
A clear distinction must be made between those who use education technologies, the dumber ones who think they have educational value, and those who make them, the computer scientists, who are not only getting smarter but richer I should know. I have a daughter who is a medical doctor and a son, a rocket scientist, both of whom will laugh at the idea that the iPhone will help educate children. What is sad is that third world countries, whose educational systems can least afford it, are buying into the commercial propaganda that the more educational technologies they purchase, the smarter their kids will be. That money would be better spent buying decent and not necessarily expensive, print text books.
