I am about carrying out my Qualitative research on gangs/gangsterism in Yenagoa - the Capital city of Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

I have been reading some comments/responses to questions that are of interest to me and I really find them enlightening. I would like to know the IDEAL number of respondents or sample SIZE for my Qualitative research on gangs. More in particular, I want to know the IDEAL number of In-depth Interviews (IDIs) I should use in generating data from gang-affilliated members from the TOTAL number of respondents.

For instance, I intend to use a total Purposive sample size or number of respondents of 40 (*I don't know if it will enough*), and out of it about 12 will be IDI from gang-affilliated members, while the rest numbers will be KII from residents, professionals, community leaders, members of the CJS etc.

I want to know if the ideal number is low and/or whether I can choose to go and stop with any number once I get to the point of "saturation" as you and some other people suggested on similar questions? Once more, my research is on GANGS - a Descriptive research design.
