I have seen articles stemming from Darwin's theory to Thorndike's social intelligence theory on the evolution of EI.
Does anyone have any interesting information/articles on the evolution timeline of EI?

I did a bit of a timeline in my research you can have a look at my profile.
Salovey and Mayer used term emotional intelligence in 1990. Then Goleman (1995).Arguably Gardner's multiple intelligences (1983) predates these. And there are aspects of EQ in Thorndike's (1920) social intelligence.

In the current version of the CHC-model (Schneider & McGrew, 2018) emotional intelligence is discussed as a tentative factor on stratum 2, i.e. the eighteenth broad ability within the range of intellectual abilities. However, as measures of emotional intelligence lack validity as compare to other broad intellectual abilities, the authors are reluctant to remove its tentative status.
