History of Management Consulting. Management Consulting began to develop shortly after the rise of management as a unique field of enterprise in the late 19th Century, along with the Industrial Revolution. The early firms were started by university professors. The first management consulting firm was named Arthur D.
I think the most important content aspect has been the move away from technical (tools and techniques) approaches and move to be more people focused approaches.
In terms of delivery the move from physical consulting to virtual consulting (mainly initially due to COVID-19) must be seen as the most important trend.
