This question is related to suspension rheology. Is anyone familiar with some qualitative tests which allow us to predict whether a given suspension will be shear thickening or shear thinning while flowing? The formal way would be to use a rheometer but there must be observational tests to test this behaviour. What test do engineers use?
Secondly, could anyone give a pointer to a readable account (not to mathematically dense) of the pressure filtration of non-Newtonian suspensions? The suspensions of interest are less than 10 micron spheres in various solvents.
Thank you.
