DATA are just some numerical values obtained through a planned experiment. A definite inference drawn from these data becomes INFORMATION. Understanding the real-world application of this information leads to KNOWLDGE generation; its like putting life to a dead body.

And the WISDOM is what completes this "Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom" continuum". I feel the last one is most important which relates to our ability to use the knowledge in best possible manner.

Hypotheses are empirically tested with observations or perception of phenomena involving more or less complex methodology. Observations are transformed into images, senses, symbols, words or numbers, named data. How observations are transformed into scientifically exploitable data differ between individual observers and environments of observation.  There is not necessarily a close biology-based relationship between literature knowledge that results from language skills, field experience linked to physical performance, perception ability caused by eye characteristics and finger coordination ability that influences how scientific material is manipulated. Because of the unique biological composition of each individual living being, different observers do not perceive and measure the same environment in exactly the same way. Even for simple measures observer effects exist, and therefore also data, information, knowledge and wisdom will be individual-specific.

There is a big difference between data, information, and knowledge. The three concepts are not the same and cannot be used interchangeably.

"At a data level there is a single bit of information, isolated from context and basically without meaning, unless one is familiar with that particular data type. That data becomes information when meaning is given to it so that a human can more easily understand it. The information becomes knowledge when context is considered, in this case that the traffic light is one I am heading towards. Wisdom is exhibited when that knowledge is applied to my situation, so that I stop the car at the red light".

It was nice to understand this complexity via an example from our daily life, I read the blog at Falkayn's Nest. It was also interesting to note that he describes his profession as a 'problem solver', perhaps the data to wisdom trajectory is meant for the same goal of ‘problem solving’.

Thank you Francesca for your thoughts. I take the point of reasoning and mental openness as complimenting phenomenon of data and information use. I also find your non-conventional point of view on data, information and knowledge signifance to one personal life, beyond a notion of professional requisite very impressive. The inherent connectivity in our personal and professional point of views strongly influences our decision making in both domains.

Data are some mere figures only and they get lives after feeding them with information and knowledge

Dear colleagues, I am interested to research of how many English (as L2) words do preschool children know before going to the first grade of Primary school? Preschool teachers in Serbia say that only those children who go to private language schools know some words but they are not sure how many and on average and which words. What is your opinion? Can anyone recommend a research article on this topic?
