It is magmatic rock with fossils. First pay your attention on the internal crystals. The crystallization is from outside to inside. So it isn’t intrusive vein. Second pay your attention on the carbide on the surface of the big fossil.
Some fossils still keep the biologic character before it is fossilized. Wood even it is fossilized, the wooden character also is kept in the fossil. First you have to have chance observing wooden tools.
Thank you for your suggestion I know it is important to confirm the locality, the age, and the geological formation of this enigmatic object. But it was found in a road building site. Only a truck of this kind of enigmatic stone is there. I didn’t pay attention on if there is any more.
Did you have noticed that there is a little one by the big one? In addition to it, the crystals crystalized from infiltrated liquid is different from vein crystal.
The fascination of fossil is the myriads of changes. In the world there are no starkly same two fossils. So for fossil there are no confirmed criterions.
“With agate rim at the margin”, I think so. Some fossils have changed to agate state; it is widely accepted by science.
Attaching a picture with a confirmed fossil in agate state.
Thank you very much! I know well what the fossil is. I took the picture in the museum. I have read its introduction. It is belongs to Chinese Orthoceras. It is very big.
the specimen in the attached picture is Orthoceras. They lived during the Paleozoic era (Ordovician to Late Permian). Where they disappeared during the great extinction Permian-Triassic, about 252 Ma.
