To answer your question : )
But-1-ene is formed in the elimination reaction:
- CH3CH2CH2CH2OH ------H+, temp.-----> CH3CH2CH=CH2 + H2O
Dibutyl ether is produced in the reaction of dehydrotation:
- 2 CH3-(CH2)2-CH2-OH ------H2SO4, temp------> CH3-(CH2)3-O-(CH2)3-CH3 + H2O
Butan-1-ol may be present in the post-reaction mixture due to not complete reaction (butanol is used as a substract in this reaction)
