tantalum oxide is aslo absorb UV irradiation and from literature it is known few examples of Ta2O5-based photocatalyst. So the effect of UV will be similar. But you should find band gap of Ta2O5 or your mixed oxide (or calculate it from UV absorption spectrum) to evaluate level of UV modification (for example in comparison with TiO2).
Higher band gap energy of a sample (compared to TiO2) will require UV with low wavelength to affect on surface hydrophilicity.
UV irradiation is a photosentizer, UV Radiation allow the photoactivity of the semi-conductor to start the reaction.
