Is there any effects of aluminum oxide layer located on the Al billet surface during cold forging? Especially during reduction process? Does it effect the friction in a good or bad manner? Does it lead failure of dies?
try it .... may be helpful...
Cold and Hot Forging: Fundamentals and Applications, Volume 1
this book explain more deeply....
When people work with aluminum and its alloys, we coexist with aluminum oxide layer.
This layer is very thin, have a hardness of 1500HV and a mid low friction coefficient.
In this sense, I think that the efect over friction is in a good manner.
If you want you can found more information in "Cold and hor forging" by Taylan Altan.
oxide layers are brittle. in cold forging, these layers are removed.
