if a 200 mm thick sand layer is laid between a raft foundation and the existing soil strata (medium stiff) how will the seismic response of the superstructure vary as compared to the foundation with no sand layer? how will the base shear change? some numerical indicator in terms of percentage will be helpful.

Compared with natural grounds fashioned by geological phenomenon over a few millions of years, reclaimed artificial grounds are often weak. In reclaimed sand, lateral flow and upward lifting of lightweight underground structures occur because of liquefaction during an earthquake. A small experiment was done by my friends in engineering to check liquefaction property of the sand.
