What is the effect of Coal Volatile Materials on the performance of a coal base direct reduction process when it is in direct contact of highly volatile coal and iron ore in a sagger at the temperature of 1200 oC and about 30 hr time?
I Think at this High Temperature for such a long time i.e 1200C , 30hr all Volatile components will be pyrolyzed into small hydrocarbons, like Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane and some sort of high B.P Tar components.
You can contact Dr. Hemmati (graduated from metallurgical and materials engineering department of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad) whose PhD thesis was in this field.
Above 650C volatile matters are released from coal; VM consist of Hydrocarbons which dissociated at high temperature to form CO and H2 gases that help for reduction of iron oxide apart from CO form from coal gasification.
