soil salinity is categorized into three classes. Saline, Sodic and saline sodic. In case of saline soils the soil is mainly rich in carbonates, bicarbonates and sulfates of Mg, Ca and Na. In case of carbonated water there is the presence of carbonates and bicarbonates mainly of Ca. This will lead to increase in pH and calcareousness of soil which is detrimental for plants as most of most can't grow well at high pH and also many nutrients become unavailable at high pH and in calcareous conditions. In this case the application of carbonated water will tend the soil to become saline and growing of plants in such a soil will be harmful for the growth and development of plants.
