Particulate matter (PM) emissions have caused a serious controversy in the conception and development of diesel powered engines. Diesel engines emit particulates by approximately 0.2–0.5% of the fuel volume as small (~ 0.1 μm diameter) particulates . Recently, investigations held by scientists have shown that potential health risks arise from the hiatus of such fine particles in ambient air .
