What kind of an excitation are you thinking of, and which electrons do you consider?

(An example could be the application of an electric field along the directions you indicated, leading (to first order) to a displacement of the Fermi surface. In the framework of the electronic structure without electric field applied, this would correspond to an excited state [many e-h-pairs]. Is this close to your question?)

Thank you Kai for the reply. I wanted to know if the excitation of the free electrons with light from different direction influences different intensities. 

I was looking up the band diagram for gold, and saw that someone has already provided an answer for your question.
