When calcites are growing in the seawater partition coefficient is different for different elements for one specific mineral. I want to know the difference between one particular calcite in different Miller indices.
The accommodation of trace elements which are of no effect on the lattice of the carbonate minerals will not provoke a different crystal morphology. We studied freshwater limestones in which the calcite graoi morphology changed as a function of the physical-chemical regime mainly pH and T and the Ca, Mn, Mg..contents together with the mineral asseblage.
Stage 1
calcite: stubby crystals with the hexagonal prism {101¯0}, trigonal bipyramids {011¯1}
Stage 2
calcite: isometric, rhombohedral crystals {011¯1}
dolomite: rhombohedron {101¯1}{12¯10}
barite: tabular crystals elongated along the [001] axis with faces {001}
calcite: not easy to identified (probable pointed rhombohedral crystals {022¯1} ?)
calcite, “manganomelane”
You should consider the entire mineral association not only calcite.
